Newspoll quarterly breakdowns

Keen followers of the comments threads will be aware I’ve had my eye off the ball a bit over the past day or so, and hence missed the always enjoyable quarterly Newspoll geographic and demographic breakdowns. These point to swings against Labor of 4.5 per cent in New South Wales, 3.3 per cent in Victoria, 2.9 per cent in Queensland, 3.2 per cent in South Australia and 1.6 per cent in Western Australia – although since they cover the past three months, they are a little more flattering to Labor than the polling picture as it stands right now. More from Peter Brent at Mumble and Simon Jackman at Stanford University.

  1. Oopoo are doing rowdy today aren’t they? That last question to Swan was a bit pathetic. Just gives him the opportunity to get up and say what he will.

  2. Am watching question time in the Senate on ABC1.

Whoever the President of the Senate is, Harry should be taking notes. He is onto interjections, firm and in control. As a result, QT is much more productive and much less unruly.

  3. [MayneReport Am just amazed Ten’s independent directors are sitting back and letting Lachlan Murdoch butcher news and sport to the advantage of News Corp ]

mayne is still on his mission

  4. Whoever the President of the Senate is, Harry should be taking notes.

The Senate’s vibe is different. If the President tried to control the House (especially this particular lot of Coalition MPs) in the same way, he’d be quickly reduced to a weeping child curled under his desk.

  5. Heard Julia G use the magic pudding thing on Insiders yesterday. Suspect that this will be a meme that the ALP will run with.

Hockey full toss to Swan. Followed by a Pyne Poo. 🙁

  6. [Mr George Christensen up on a PoO. He wants to know about a carbon price on trucks too, apparently.]
My local member. Oh such embarrassment 🙁

  7. [Dont think I can handle another rant by Abbott.]
He’s not going anywhere just yet, victoria. Press mute when ever you see him, Joe, Poodle, etc

@AE555 Actually, I think TA gets a very easy run from the media, they let far too much go by without asking the right questions]

Just had this sent to me by a friend. Said that this bloke, Paul Barratt, is a former Secretary of a couple of Federal Departments. So …. PBers are not wrong!

[Running out of headlines. Also, feeling strong sense of GST-debate deja vu.]

  10. Really I wouldnt be worried about polls until we are a year out from election then if they are still the same then so be it let them have what they want but dont let us forget who put the incompetents in government. What you sow so shall you reap

  11. dovif,

Any bad opinion poll for the ALP is bad for your grandkids, it means they’re closer to getting ripped off by SerfChoices.

  12. The Essential shows there is still a negative trend for the Government which must be a very disturbing sign as I was assuming the polls had already hit bottom.

Unfortunately, The Australian people are not seeing through the opposition. The polls tells us so.

The Opposition are terrible and as bad as poorly behaved as they were when Labor won back in 2007. At that time the people rated the government much higher than the Opposition. But why now are they saying the government is considerably worse than the Opposition, a pretty big insult.

  13. Technically, is Mr Hockey the Shadow Minister for the Magic Pudding? Or is it Mr Robb? Or would Mr Abbott become the Prime Minister and the Minister for the Magic Pudding?

I do wish they would sort themselves out.

  14. Notice how quite the Oppn is while Kev is speaking. It’s a bit different to when he was the PM and they and the media ridiculed him daily.
